Wehr to run for Huntingburg council-at-large seat

Tim Wehr announced his intentions to run the At-Large seat on the Huntingburg Common Council as an Independent nomination.

Wehr currently serves as a volunteer board member for several non-profit organizations including the Huntingburg Girls Softball League, Friends of Raiders Softball and the Huntingburg Citizens Advisory Group. He was also instrumental in the success of the “YES for Southridge” campaign that resulted in the renovations at Southridge High School in 2012.

He and his family are members of St. Mary’s Church and continues to be involved in many activities there.

The youngest of five siblings, Tim is the son of the late Joe and Virginia (Ginny) Wehr of Huntingburg

Wehr, 51, has been married to his wife Jackie for 26 years. He has lived in Huntingburg for 46 years, where they raised two daughters, Danielle, 23, and Megan, 19. After leaving the area for a brief 5-year period to pursue career ambitions in St. Charles, Missouri, he returned to Huntingburg to raise his family in his hometown.

“My wife and I wanted to raise our daughters in a safe community with a strong educational system. We felt they would be better able to reach their potential in Huntingburg so we chose to come home,” Wehr said.

Wehr graduated from Southridge High School in 1982 and earning his degree in Aviation Maintenance at Vincennes University in 1984. He continued his education and training to become a corporate pilot.

While flying for the past 15 years for Kimball International, he has visited many cities and towns across the country including destinations in 6 different countries, giving him a different perspective about how government can be a benefit to the citizens of a community like Huntingburg.

“My experiences will help me to better understand and serve a diverse community like Huntingburg and hope that the people here will come out and support my campaign in the fall,” he said.

Wehr says he has always voted for the individual he believed would do the best job in public office and has ignored political party affiliations. Trying to avoid the labels that sometimes are associated with political parties, he has decided to run as an Independent candidate.

“I love this town and always have.” Wehr said. “It’s an exciting time in Huntingburg with the Stellar Community projects coming, and I want to contribute to the success of the program and to the future of our town as much as I can.”
