Weekend fire destroys abandoned Dubois home

A weekend fire destroyed an abandoned home in Dubois.

According to the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, the owner of a neighboring property reported the fire after seeing flames just 11 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived at the home located at 3rd and Sycamore Streets they found the southwest corner of the home was fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the rest of the structure while firefighters were battling the fire. The home was deemed unsafe due to hotspots and torn down.

The home is owned by Kristy Ranck of Texas. The home was empty at the time of the fire.

Eighteen volunteer firefighters from Dubois responded with three trucks. They were assisted by Indiana State Police, the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
