Wallace G. Schaaf Sr., 93, Santa Claus

Wallace G. Schaaf Sr., 93, Santa Claus, died on February 27, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Wally was born February 4, 1924, in Dale to Gilbert and Phoebe (Wetzel) Schaaf.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, farmer and after retirement worked for Christmas Lake Golf Course. He was an 80-year member of Santa Claus United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Santa Claus Optimist Club and a long-time member of the Santa Claus American Legion. He was also a 50-year member of Gentryville Masonic Lodge #424 F. &A.M., Scottish Rite and Hadi Temple serving on the Hospital Staff and Chrisney Eastern Star Chapter 357.

He is survived by his children, Mike Schaaf of Dale, Bud Schaaf of Santa Claus and David Schaaf or Orlando, Fla.; stepson, Neal Fry of Greenfield, Ind.; two granddaughters, Jeanette Holmberg of Virginia Beach, Vir. and K.C. Schaaf of Orlando, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Faye Jeanette Schaaf in 1986 and wife of six years, Roberta Fry in 1996; a son, Eugene Wesley Schaaf in infancy; a stepson, Gary Fry; and siblings, Samuel, Oswald and Viola Schaaf.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, March 3, 2017, at 10 a.m. CST at the Santa Claus United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Tim Ahlmeyer will officiate.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. CST Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Santa Claus United Methodist Church, with a Masonic Memorial Service conducted at 7 p.m. at the church.
