VU accident sends two to the hospital and cancels morning class
Update – Knox County – Earlier today a man had a seizure, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Technology Building on the Vincennes University Campus.
Preliminary investigation revealed Damon Jones, 34, of Vincennes, was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe northeast on Chestnut Street when he suffered a seizure. Jones’ vehicle left the roadway and traveled approximately 225 feet before striking a utility pole at Chestnut Street and Indianapolis Street. The impact with the utility police caused a major power outage on campus. The vehicle continued out of control for an additional 405 feet before colliding into the southwest corner of the Technology Building.
The vehicle drove through the wall and traveled approximately 20 feet before coming to a final rest in a classroom occupying approximately 15 students.
A 23-year-old male student from Bloomington was slightly injured when a table was pushed into his back. The student was treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. Jones was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.

VINCENNES – A morning traffic accident involving a power pole and campus building sent two people to the hospital and caused a major power outage at the Vincennes Campus of Vincennes University Monday morning.
The SUV struck a power pole near the corner of Indianapolis Avenue and Chestnut Street at 8:05 a.m. (EDT) and then careened into the side of the Technology Building. The vehicle went through two walls coming to rest under a stairwell. The driver was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. A student in a classroom was treated and released from the hospital.
The accident caused a power outage at multiple campus buildings causing administrators to cancel classes noon when classes will resume a regular schedule. An emergency alert was sent about the cancellation of morning classes.
The Indiana State Police is investigating the accident.
