Democrat Larry Vollmer of Jasper is seeking re-election as the District 1 representative to the Dubois County Commissioners.

Vollmer, 68, attended Jasper High School and served two years in the Army, serving one year in Vietnam, where he received a citation for faithful and efficient performance of duty.

A farmer in Madison Township, Vollmer is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, where he has served on the long-term planning committee and is an usher. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Vollmer is a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673 in Jasper, where he served two years as past commander, sat on the house committee and serves as a member of the honorary funeral detail. Vollmer is the past president of the Dubois County Veterans Council and is a member of the American Legion. Vollmer is a member of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, Superior Ag Resources Co-op, Ireland Sportsman’s Club, Jasper Outdoor Recreation and Dubois County Museum.

Vollmer is currently serving as president of the Dubois County Commissioners and has served as president for four of the past eight years. Vollmer is serving as vice president and previously served as president of the Indiana Association of County Commissioners Southwest District, which includes 17 counties.

Vollmer serves on the Dubois County Community Corrections Advisory Board, the Tri-Cap Board of Directors and has previously served as vice president of the Dubois County Solid Waste management District. Vollmer has previously served two years as president of the six-county Indiana 15 Regional Planning Commission and sits on the Dubois County Local Emergency Planning Committee, County Emergency Management Agency Advisory Board, local child protection and welfare board and Dubois County Drainage Board.

Among his reasons for running for re-election, Vollmer said, “I would like to continue to keep Dubois County among the leaders in the state of Indiana. The fact that I work hard to perform my obligation to the public is evident by the offices of trust which I have been elected to by other area leaders.

“Over the years, I’ve worked very well with local county and city officials and have always put citizens of our county first. Dubois County is a great place to raise a family and I would like the opportunity to continue to work to keep it that way,” he added.

Vollmer and his wife, Mary, live on County Road 150N, Jasper. They have two sons, Scott and Craig, and five grandchildren.
