Vivian A. O’Brien, 84, Loogootee

Vivian A. O’Brien, 84, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Legacy Living in Jasper, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 10, 1940, in Spencer, Indiana, to Homer Felix and Ruby Ellen (Stalcup) Collins. She married Patrick O’Brien on June 23, 1973, combining their families, making their own Brady Bunch.

Vivian graduated from Loogootee High School in 1958. She worked at Aristokraft for several years, eventually retiring from Perfect Fit in 2002. After her retirement she spent much of her time baking and doting on her family. She would bake goods and then pass them along to her family after she got her fill.

She and her husband were avid gardeners. You would never leave her house without a baked good or something canned. Vivian enjoyed teaching her great-granddaughter how to make persimmon pudding, a family secret, and refrigerator pickles. She loved it when her son would bring her fresh fried fish in the summertime and when her daughter cooked her hotdogs on the grill. She was very loved by her family and will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick O’Brien who passed away on January 31, 2018; her parents, Homer and Ruby Collins; her brothers, Robert Dale Collins, Dean Collins, and Homer “Jack” Collins; and son-in-law, Bill Armstrong.

Vivian is survived by her children, Naydine Armstrong of Loogootee, Richard A. (Cindy) Fuhrman of Loogootee, and Linda (Dennis) Peschel of New Ulm, Texas; stepchildren, Mike D. (Julie) O’Brien of Holland, Kelly S. (Stephen) O’Brien of Loogootee, and Chris L. (Jennifer) O’Brien of Stendal; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 A.M at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, IN, with Pastor Timothy Fleace to officiate. Burial will follow in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in Whitfield, Indiana.
