Virginia A. Mehringer, 88

Virginia A. Mehringer, 88, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Virginia was born on October 2, 1925 in Scott City, Missouri to William and Elizabeth (Seyer) Blattel. She had two marriages. Her first marriage was to Robert Schepers in Kelso, Missouri on July 14, 1943. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1976. Her second marriage was to Linus A. Mehringer at St. Joseph Catholic Church on November 30, 1978. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2002.

Virginia retired from the Jasper School Corporation where she was a cook for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper and its St. Ann’s Society. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her dog Buddy.

She is survived by three stepdaughters, Mary Ann Bohnert and her husband James, Mel Snyder, and her husband Ron, and Elaine Streicher and her husband Gary, all of Jasper; one stepson, Jerry Mehringer, and his wife Barb, of Tell City; one sister, Clara Stemle, of Jasper; one brother, Leon Blattel and his wife Ann, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her two husbands were three sisters; Maria Gawthorp, Alvina Haase, and Dorothy Miller, two brothers; Theon Blattel and Paul Blattel, and two step sons; Jim Mehringer and Donald Mehringer.

Funeral services for Virginia Mehringer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church.
