Virgil W. Merkel, 75

Virgil W. Merkel, 75, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 25, 2013.

He was born in Birdseye to Oscar and Rosella Merkel.

Mr. Merkel worked as an electronics engineer. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Fort Wayne and Knights of Columbus Council 451. He was a graduate of Saint Meinrad Seminary and an avid woodworker.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Sue Merkel (Trabel),

Steven (Christine) Merkel

Two daughters,

Lisa (James) Bonahoom

Laura (Paul) Meitz

Grandchildren,

Matthew, Alastair, Tiffany, Riley, Sam, Grant, Joseph, Grace, Teresa, and Anna Merkel, Caitlyn and Colin Jackson, Noah Bonahoom, and Koa Meitz;

Allen (Marlene) Merkel of Jasper

David (Brenda) Merkel of Celestine

One sister,

Florence (Dennis) Vogler of Cottonwood, AZ;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Rosella Merkel; sister, Laverne Merkel; and granddaughter, Isabella Merkel.and one sister.

Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
