Virgil R. Lechner, 82, Jasper

Virgil R. Lechner, 82, Jasper, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 19th, 2017, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper, IN.
Virgil was born in Jasper, IN on December 14, 1934, to Henry and Philomenia (Gramelspacher) Lechner. He married JoAnn Durcholz on December 27, 1955, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, IN.
Virgil was a real estate developer who developed the Lechner subdivision in Jasper, and he also worked as a self-employed carpet layer and farmer. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and going to yard sales and auctions.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Lechner of Jasper; daughter, Jane Weidenbenner of Cartersville, Ga.; four sons, Terry Lechner and wife Sherri of Jasper, John Lechner and wife Mary Lou of Huntingburg, Joe Lechner of Jasper and Mike Lechner and wife Brenda of Jasper; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
five step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one son, Jim Lechner. Virgil was the last survivor in his family of six sisters, Cordella Hopf, Florence Hurst, Eleanor Gogel, Rosetta Keusch, Marcella “Sally” Heim, and Ruth Schmitt, and one brother, Vincent Lechner.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Virgil R. Lechner will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, at Precious Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Monday.
