Virgil “Mark” Goebel, 78, St. Anthony
Virgil “Mark” Goebel, 78, of St. Anthony, passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2026.

Mark was born December 12, 1947, in Paris, Ill., to Virgil and Virginia (Ware) Goebel.
Mark is survived by his son, Dorian Goebel of Petersburg and daughter Marni (Justin) Vonderheide, along with his grandchildren who he adored, Anstin and Amrin Vondehreide of St.Anthony; his former wife, Joan (Gariepy) Goebel of Petersburg; sister, Diane Klueh of Kokomo; brother, Danny Goebel of Vincennes; and nieces and nephews.
Mark worked in information technology and was a self-proclaimed “computer geek”.
Mark was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Navy aboard the USS St. Paul. He loved motocross and grilling. Mark was a talented cook and loved entering BBQ contests. He loved music and was very talented. He wrote music and played many instruments, especially guitar, until his passing. Mark was also a member of the St. Anthony V.F.W.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents and sister Camilla Fleck of Vincennes.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date; no services have been announced.
Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand has been entrusted with final arrangements.
