Virgil M. Gress, 70, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 6:14 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Virgil was born in Jasper, Indiana on April 4, 1945 to Anton and Margaret (Lampert) Gress. He married Judy Schlachter on April 8, 1967 in St. Meinrad Catholic Church in St. Meinrad, Indiana.

Virgil was the co-founder and president of Kitchen Jewels, Inc. in Jasper, Indiana. He served as the past president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer and was a member of the Jasper American Legion Post #147.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, the Jasper Optimist Club, and a past president of the Jasper German Club. He and his wife Judy served as the host and hostess of the Jasper Strassenfest.

He enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.

She is survived by his wife, Judy Gress of Jasper; two sons, Darren Gress and wife Pam of Jasper and Dale Gress and wife Micki of Jasper;  six grandchildren, Emily, Abby and Evan Gress, and Jade, Lexi, and Will Gress; four sisters,
Clara Mae Braunecker of Ireland, Mitz Lanham and husband Bob of Plainfield, Naomi Gress of Jasper, and Diane Buechlein and husband Gene of Fischers; two brothers, Lee Gress and wife Rita of Ireland and Wilfred Gress and wife Helen of Ireland.

Preceding him in death was one brother, Rich Gress.

Funeral services for Virgil M. Gress will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, IN, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, Indiana. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before the 10 a.m. service time at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Holy Family Parish will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
