Violet Kissling, 94

Violet Kissling, 94, of Holland, Indiana, passed away at 8:03 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2014, at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.
She was born January 24, 1920 in Holland, Indiana, to Herbert and Anna (Kaetzel) Hemmer.
She was united in marriage to Jesse C. Kissling on October 21, 1941 at her parent’s home in Holland by Rev. Sam Kaetzel, the bride’s uncle.
Violet was a member of the Holland United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Society, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter #77, past president of V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #2366 in Huntingburg; former secretary/treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary Post #343 in Holland; and former secretary of the Holland Senior Citizens.
She did a lot of volunteer work and enjoyed quilting, having pieced together many quilts. She worked five years as a Star Route Mail Carrier and was a correspondent for The Dubois County Herald where she wrote the “Holland News” newspaper column for many years.
Violet was preceded in death by: her husband, Jesse C. Kissling, who passed away July 27, 1988; two sisters, Dorothy Springston and Helen Heady; and one brother, Paul Hemmer.
She is survived by one daughter Doris (spouse: James) Eck of Otwell; four sons, James (spouse: Jo) Kissling of Indianapolis, Ray (spouse: Janet) Kissling of Huntingburg, Clyde (spouse: Sue Ann) Kissling of Holland, and Glen (spouse: Connie) Kissling of Huntingburg; two brothers, Charles (spouse: Jean) Hemmer of Nashville, Tenn., and Alfred (spouse: Martha) Hemmer of Santa Claus; by 12 grandchildren and (15) great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Violet Kissling will be held at 11:00 a.m., EST, on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Holland United Methodist Church in Holland with burial to follow at the Holland United Methodist Cemetery. The Reverend Joe Kamman and Reverend Keith Chanley will officiate at the services.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2-8 p.m., on Wednesday; and also at the church in Holland one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday morning.
A combined V.F.W. Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to the Holland United Methodist Church. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.nassandson.com.
