Viola C. Schroeder, 89, of Jasper, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 2, 1927, to Leander and Rose (Dick) Giesler. She married Orville J. Schroeder on May 31, 1939, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2016.

Viola was employed by Buehler Foods for many years, and then after retirement was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Blessed Virgin Sodality, and the Jasper D of I. She enjoyed quilting and cooking, and she loved playing cards and spending time with her family.

Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Cleveland of Indianapolis, Bev Kuper and her husband George of Jasper and Debbie Matheis and her husband Pat of Jasper; one son, Greg Schroeder and his wife Michelle of Jasper; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Knust and husband Reynold of Ferdinand and Sr. Mildred Giesler of St. Mary of the Woods; one brother, Sylvester Giesler and his wife Irene of Jasper.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one grandson, Brian Matheis, three sisters, Ardella Heim, Mary Ann Uebelhor, and Florence Neuhoff, and four brothers, Arnold, Edward, Herman and Robert Giesler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. service time at the church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
