Victoria Catherine Johannah (Schnarr) Weigel, 98, Huntingburg

Victoria Catherine Johannah (Schnarr) Weigel, 98, of Huntingburg, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Sunday, January 24, 2016, in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born March 15, 1917, in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Christian and Augusta (Cramm) Schnarr.

Victoria was a graduate of Huntingburg High School’s Class of 1935. She married Albert J. Weigel on June 20, 1937, at Salem Church in Huntingburg.

She and her husband owned and operated The Shopping Mart in Jasper. Victoria also volunteered at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital and Shared Abundance. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg and also a Ladies Guild member. She was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper 1937 until 1982.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Weigel, who passed away in 1988.

She is survived by one son, Clark Weigel of Dubois; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Beverly Castelli of Huntingburg, Maxine (George) Hurley of Pendleton, Ind. and Mary Louise (Pastor David) Dolan of Johnson Creek, Wisc.; by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Victoria C. Weigel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Pastor Mark West will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Shared Abundance or Salem United Church of Christ.
