Victor W. “Vic” Humbert, 90

Victor W. “Vic” Humbert, 90, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at home.
Vic was born in Celestine, Indiana on August 21, 1924 to Henry and Nellie (Petronella) Hoffman. He married Loretta Klem on May 20, 1947 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony.
Vic was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II and the Korean War. During WWII, he was a military police officer and drove for General Patton. He retired from Knies and Nordhoff Construction Company where he had worked for 17 years. He was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, a recipient of the Brute Award along with his wife, Loretta, and a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #673, the American Legion Post #147, and a life member of the Celestine Community Club.
He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Humbert of Celestine; one daughter, Mary Sander, and her husband Ronald of Celestine; one son, Michael Humbert and his wife Donna of Jasper; five grandchildren, Holly Mundy, Heather Pfister, and Nanette Brames, Jeff Sander, and Janel Buechler; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Merter of Jasper.
Preceding him in death are one daughter, Theresa Humbert; a stillborn infant son; two sisters, Bernadetta Mundy and an infant sister, Henrietta Humbert; and two brothers Edward and George Humbert.
Funeral services for Victor W. “Vic” Humbert will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2015, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Celestine Catholic Church, the Celestine Fire Department or to a favorite charity.
