VFW Post 673 makes donation to Civil Air Patrol Cadet Squadron

The “Patoka Valley Cadet Squadron” (IN-216), Civil Air Patrol (CAP), US Air Force Auxiliary, received a $680 check from the Dubois County VFW Post 673.

The VFW has a weekly drawing for its “half-pot,” which supports the donations. Each quarter, profits from this are donated to a local charity.

Currently, the local CAP has 24 Cadets and 8 senior members led by Squadron Commander Capt. Jonda Bowers. The money, gratefully accepted, will be used for uniforms and gear for the cadets.

Civil Air Patrol Cadets are introduced to the core values of integrity, excellence, volunteer service and respect for others. They follow a military code of conduct as well as fun activities to promote education in aerospace and aviation programs.

The CAP cadet program is designed to develop youths into dynamic leaders through leadership training, aerospace education, physical fitness, character development, ethics, mentorship and hands-on leadership experience. Cadets who progress to the rank of officer are eligible to enter the regular military as an E-3 if they choose to do so.

The Patoka Valley Cadet Squadron gets together every Tuesday evening at the airport in Huntingburg between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

Any young person between the ages of 12 and 18 is invited to join or, if they just want to come out to see what it’s all about, they are welcome to come and just observe.
