Verena R. Kays, 76

Verena R. Kays, age 76, of Ferdinand, Indiana, passed away at 4:05 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born November 7, 1937 in Ferdinand to Louis and Ellnora (Morgan) Schwartz.

She married Arbor Gene Kays on November 21, 1955 in Winslow.

Mrs. Kays worked at Styline

for 16 years. She retired from Aristocraft in 2003 after 17 years. She then worked part time for the Sisters of St. Benedict at the Hildegard Health Center.

She enjoyed gardening, quilting and reading.

Mrs. Kays was preceded in death by: her husband, Arbor Gene Kays, who died on November 30, 1976; one sister, Lastie Hedinger; and two brothers, Albert Schwartz and Roman Schwartz.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Gentry of Ferdinand; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark (Sandy) Kays of Huntingburg; one sister, Margie Bowman of Ferdinan; six grandchildren, Samantha Adams, Shawn Gentry, Travis Gentry, Ryan Kays, Jill Workman and Emily Kays; three great grandchildren and by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Verena R. Kays will be held at 9:00 a.m., EST, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Velpen. Pastor Josh LaGrange will officiate at the services.
