Verena (Hopf) Schroeder died peacefully in her sleep on December 28, 2013.

She was born on October 8, 1925, to Edward and Catherine (Kluemper) Hopf.

Verena was married to Norbert Schroeder on June 8, 1948.

She was a wife and homemaker and also worked at various retail and cleaning jobs. More importantly, Verena dedicated herself to a life of service to her family and community, especially Precious Blood Catholic Church. She bound well over 2,000 quilts for Precious Blood and other organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Catherine Hopf; daughter, Margaret (Schroeder) Vestweber; sisters, Loretta Burgan and husband, George; Dorothy Senninger and husband, Roman; Sister Mary Gabriel, C.P. (Ardella); brother Ambrose and wife, Dorothy Mae; and brothers Rev. Linus, Emil, and Harold (Bud) Hopf.

Verena is survived by husband, Norbert; daughter, Patty Rose; and sons, Eugene and Thomas (Jo Ann), son-in-law, Jerry Vestweber; sister, Bernie Schnell (Hip); and sisters-in-law, Kathy (Luckie) and Theresa Hopf; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Precious Blood Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014, 2:00-8:00 p.m., at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel, continuing at Precious Blood Church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 2, 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Norbert & Verena Schroeder Charitable Trust for Precious Blood.
