Velma O. Grundhoefer, 97

Velma O. Grundhoefer, 97, of Mariah Hill, passed away Wednesday December 31 at 12:20 a.m. at Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand.
She was born January 23, 1917 in Mariah Hill to Simon & Philomena (Seufert) Nord. She married Raymond Grundhoefer November 25, 1937 in Mary Help Of Christians Church. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1980.
She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Boeckman of Santa Claus, Kathleen Kemper and husband Jim, Sandra Hagedorn, and Ruth Burger, all of Ferdinand; two sons, Ronald Grundhoefer and wife Joan, of Newburgh and Kenneth Grundhoefer and wife Esther, of Evansville; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Sylvester Nord and wife Alice, of Ferdinand; one sister, Vernita “Nita” Lueken of Ferdinand.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Emil, Francis “Bencie”, and Jim Nord; three sisters, Loretta Nord, Edna Roll, and Bernice Smith; two great-grandchildren, Jonah Rickelman and Abram Burger.
Velma was a member of Mary Help Of Christians Parish and it’s Ladies Sodality. She was a homemaker.
She received the honorary Bruté Award in 2006. She was a member of Mariah Hill Conservation Club, and Mary Help Of Christians Parish Picnic Turtle Soup Chairperson. She was a former Spencer County Democrat Precinct Committeeman. She enjoyed playing cards, butchering, attending sporting activities, and working outdoors.
Funeral services 10:00 a.m. CST Monday in Mary Help Of Christians Church, Mariah Hill. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. CST Sunday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand, and Monday after 9 a.m. CST at the church.
