Urban L. Wilmes, age 95 of Jasper, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Tuesday (December 25, 2012) at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Urban was born on October 23, 1917 in Ferdinand, IN to Joseph and Mathilda (Nord) Wilmes. He married Ardella Daunhauer on July 30, 1946 in Mariah Hill, IN.

Urban worked at Jasper Wood Products for nearly forty years, where he learned woodworking skills that he used to make crafts and stay creative throughout his life.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII as a radio mechanic in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he received the Brute Society award in 1996. He was also a member of the VFW Post #673, the American Legion Post #147, and The Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and was a talented craftsman. He also volunteered for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Two sisters; Marcella Gogel, Mariah Hill and Margaret Fetter, Ferdinand

Preceding Urban in death are six brothers; Albert, Oscar, Hubert, Ernest, Clarence and Dennis Wilmes, and two Sisters, Rose Wilmes, who died infancy, and Hilda Oser.

Funeral services for Urban Wilmes will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday (December 29, 2012) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN, with entombment to follow at the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday (December 28, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
