Urban H. “Butch” Schwenk, 77

Urban H. “Butch” Schwenk, age 77, of Ireland, Indiana passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Urban was born in Ireland, Indiana on January 21, 1937 to Theodore and Frances (Mundy) Schwenk.

He was a retired farmer, and was a lifelong mechanic, doing heavy mechanic repair in the United States Army and then small engine repair. He was also a Briggs and Stratton Dealer.

He was a member of the Ireland High School class of 1955, the United States Army, St.Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, the American Legion Post #147, and the Jasper K of C.

He enjoyed following horse racing, watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and attending auctions.

He is survived by one brother, Louis Schwenk, and his wife Joan, of Jasper; 24 nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are one sister, Mary Ann “Nancy” Hopf, two half sisters, Emma Scherle and Leeta Schwenk, who died in infancy and two brothers, Bernard and Thomas Schwenk.

Funeral services for Urban H. Schwenk will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
