Update: Matheny in custody, murder victim identified

Update: Monday at about 3:53 p.m., a Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the murder suspect’s vehicle on State Road 144 north of Patesville, Ky.

The vehicle was stopped on State Road 144 west of Goering Road. Matheny was taken into custody without incident.

Matheny was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail where he is currently being held on charges from Kentucky and Indiana.

Stacy Matheny’s father, Earl Matheny, was driving the vehicle when stopped by deputies. Earl Matheny was not arrested. The investigation is continuing.

Matheny is charged with murder in Indiana and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon by Kentucky authorities.

Authorities also released the identity of the homicide victim in the shooting that occurred in Cannelton. Philip Chase, 47, who’s address is not known at this time, was killed in a shooting at a residence at 4346 Bell Hollow Road in Cannelton.

Original: Monday, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Indiana State Police and Perry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal shooting at a residence located at 4346 Bell Hollow Road, Cannelton.

According to authorities, Stacy Matheny, 47, of Cannelton, drove to the residence at 4346 Bell Hollow Road and confronted a male outside the residence. After a brief verbal altercation, Matheny allegedly pulled a handgun and fatally shot the male. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroner. The male was visiting the person who resides at the residence when this incident occurred.

Matheny left the scene driving a green 2001 Ford Explorer. Matheny’s father is possibly in the vehicle. Investigating officers believe it’s possible that he may be in the Hopkins County, Ky. area. Matheny should be considered armed and dangerous.

Stacy B. Matheny is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 250 lbs. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
