U.S. Marshals nab sex crime fugitive in Jasper

Jasper — The U.S. Marshal Service nabbed a fugitive in Jasper on Tuesday.
Justin Mahan, 28, was running from over 22 charges — including molesting a 5-year-old girl — stemming from an investigation in Greenwood, Ind.
According to authorities, they began investigating Mahan on November 18 after a Greenwood woman reported he was harassing her. She told police that Mahan had installed some tracking software on her cellphone that also recorded her text messages. Police were able to confirm that the software had been installed on the victim’s phone.
Mahan was arrested on November 20 for an outstanding arrest warrant from Johnson County, Ind. while he was sitting outside the woman’s apartment.
Police obtained a search warrant for Mahan’s phone in December and found several images that depicted Mahan engaged in sexual acts with a 5-year-old girl.
Mahan fled to Jasper to avoid arrest, but U.S. Marshals located and arrested Mahan on Tuesday at a Conrad Avenue apartment.
Mahan is charges with a A felony count of child molesting; five C felony counts of child molesting; 14 C felony counts of child exploitation; one D felony count of computer tampering, and one Class-D felony county of stalking.
