U.S. 231 repairs scheduled to begin next week
Dubois County – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced that the paving project on U.S. 231 between Huntingburg and Jasper is set to begin in June.
Beginning on or after Monday, June 3, contractor’s crews will begin patching sections of U.S. 231. According to INDOT spokesperson Cher Elliot, the contractors expect to work from south to north in the northbound lanes, then north to south in the southbound lane for each work operation (patching, milling, paving).
Once the deep patching operation is complete, crews will begin milling and paving sections of the roadway.
Work could begin as early as 6:00 a.m. and last as late as 9:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
The overall project completion date is anticipated to be November 1.
The $2 million contract was awarded in October of 2012 to Gohmann Asphalt & Construction of Clarksville, Indiana and included a closure to allow for a large, concrete deep-patch of U.S. 231 from Division Road and Twelfth Street.
State officials had stated they did not plan on making any major repairs to U.S. 231 before 2016 but city and county officials went to the state to ask them to reschedule the work.
The major portion to be repaired starts north of State Road 64 — Sixth Street in Huntingburg— to just south of State Road 162, on the south side of Jasper. It also includes some sections in Jasper from 14th Street to Schuetter Road and sections in Huntingburg from Second Avenue to just south of Fourth Street.
