Two teens injured in ATV crash near Celestine

Deputies responded to an ATV crash east of Celestine that injured two teens on Sunday evening.

According to authorities, a 14-year-old male was operating the ATV with a 16-year-old female passenger. He was driving southbound on County Road 820E when he attempted to turn left on County Road 75N. While turning, he hit a patch of loose gravel in the intersection and the ATV continued southbound off the south side of the road. It went through a ditch before striking a metal fence. Both teens were thrown from the ATV.

Neither occupant was wearing a helmet or appropriate personal protective equipment, according to police. The operator sustained an abrasion to his leg and refused to be transported to Memorial Hospital. The passenger complained of pain to her left side and was taken to Memorial by ambulance.

Celestine Volunteer Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
