Police and SW School Corp Officials investigating assault allegation against bus driver

Huntingburg — The Huntingburg Police Department and Southwest Dubois County School officials are investigating an alleged assault on two students by a contract bus driver.

According to Al Mihajlovits, the corporation transportation director, a parent filed a complaint with Principal Kelly Murphy and the Huntingburg Police Department stating her child and another child were assaulted by the driver earlier this week.

School buses contracted by the school corporation have video surveillance devices on them. Mihajlovits stated that the police department and school officials have reviewed the video footage of the incident on the bus and he will meet with Superintendent Mike Eineman, who is currently in Indianapolis, on Monday to discuss the corporation’s next steps.

The majority of school corporation buses are contracted through private firms and Mihajlovits confirmed this was a contracted firm driver. The driver has not been driving the bus since the incident.

According to Huntingburg Assistant Police Chief Ronnie Bowman, the department has received an allegation of an assault. They are reviewing video and have taken statements from several people regarding the incident, but no actions are being taken until the beginning of next week when school officials are back in town.

No other information can be made public at this time since it is an active investigation involving two minors, according to Bowman.
