A single vehicle crash in eastern Dubois County left two men injured, one critically, Wednesday afternoon.

According to Indiana State Police, Shane Daniel King, 38, of Grandview, was traveling eastbound on State Road 64 at about 4:34 p.m. in a white 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck about one and a half miles west of Birdseye. For an unknown reason, King’s truck drifted across the westbound lanes and left the north side of the roadway. The truck struck a guardrail and a number of small trees before coming to stop after hitting a large tree head-on about 140 feet from where it left the roadway.

Both King and his passenger, 36-year-old Shane J. Schlachter of Birdseye, were extricated from the vehicle by Birdseye First Responders.

Schlachter suffered multiple lacerations and was treated at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

King was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville and is currently listed in critical condition.

The Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and Schnellville Volunteer Fire Department.
