Two killed in head-on collision in Spencer County
Two people were killed in a headon collision on U.S. 231 near the Santa Claus exit Thursday morning.
According to Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer County Sheriff’s Office deputies, emergency medical services, and first responders responded to a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 231, south of State Road 162 at 5:57 a.m. CST.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1994 red Chevrolet pickup driven by Philip Ebelhar, 56, of Chrisney, was traveling north in the southbound lanes.
A 2022 Black Hyundai passenger car, driven by Breah Cummings, 20 years old, of Eckerty, IN, was traveling southbound in the passing lane, passing a semi tractor-trailer when the red pickup collided head-on with the Hyundai passenger car.
Both drivers were pronounced deceased on the scene and families have been notified.
The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency of the collision.
The Indiana State Police provided the crash scene reconstruction.
Indiana State Police, Santa Claus Police Department, Spencer County EMS, Chrisney Fire Department, Carter Fire Department, Santa Claus Fire Department and Spencer County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
