Two injured while rabbit hunting near Ferdinand
A Ferdinand man and Jasper woman were shot while rabbit hunting Sunday morning southwest of Ferdinand.
According to Indiana Conservation Officers, they were called to the shooting incident at about 9:15 a.m. They determined that Kevin Luebbehusen, 34, of Ferdinand and Stacey McBride, 26, of Jasper, were with a hunting party watching a rabbit hunt when a rabbit ran between them and another hunter, Glen Vonderheide, 55, of Huntingburg.
Vonderheide swung his firearm in the direction of Luebbehusen and Mcbride following the rabbit and shot three times.
Luebbehusen and McBride both were hit with pellets from the shotgun and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Thick brush and an incline were contributing factors in obstructing the view of Vonderheide.
All subjects were wearing hunting orange.
Responding agencies included the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Ferdinand EMS, Saint Henry Fire Department and Indiana Conservation Officers.
Indiana Conservation Officers encourage safe firearm practices and remind all hunters to be aware of your surroundings and what is beyond your target.
