Two injured in boat accident on Patoka Lake

Two people were injured in a boating accident near Goose Island at Patoka Lake on Saturday at around 3 p.m.

According to the news release, 32-year-old Leslie Ash, of Louisville, Ky., was operating a 2005 Honda AquaTrax personal watercraft in rough water at a high rate of speed when the craft hit a wave and went airborne.

Ash and a 14-year-old male passenger were thrown from the craft. The boy hit the water at a high rate of speed and Ash struck the craft.

The teen was flown to Kosair’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville with head injuries. Ash was flown to University of Louisville Hospital with back injuries.

The water at the lake was rough due to the high amount of boat traffic there over the weekend.

Officials said both were wearing Coast Guard-approved life jackets and drugs and alcohol did not appear to be involved in the accident.
