Trump signs taken in Jasper

Someone stole a Jasper resident’s political signs supporting Donald Trump’s candidacy for the Republican nomination for president.

According to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, sometime between 7 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday, three signs supporting Trump’s presidential bid were taken from Dennis O’Rourke’s property at 491 South 400 West, Jasper.

Two of the signs O’Rourke purchased cost $40, according to police.

Police said anyone found removing a political sign without legal authority can be charged with Class A misdemeanor criminal conversion.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 812-482-3522.

Authorities also reminded the public that before a political ad can be placed, permission must be granted by the owner of the private property. An unauthorized sign placed in a highway or road right-of-way is considered a public nuisance and will be removed by the authority having jurisdiction over the road or highway.
