A crash at the railroad crossing north of Winslow closed State Road 61 for about three and a half hours while the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and first responders clear the scene.

According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, a 2012 Mack owned by C&M Giant Tire struck the second engine of the westbound Norfolk Southern train as it passed at about 1:58 p.m. The driver, Kris McDonald of Petersburg, was able to exit the vehicle on his own.

He was transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was treated and released.

The crossing where the incident occurred has warning lights and a railroad crossing sign but does not have descending gates.

Pike County Sheriff’s Department reported the incident is still under investigation.

Pike County Emergency Medical Services, Patoka Township Fire Department and Winslow Fire Department assisted at the scene.
