Traffic stop nets two Jasper men on drug, handgun charges

A traffic stop in Jasper resulted in two men being arrested on felony handgun and methamphetamine charges.

According to police, a Jasper officer stopped a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox at the intersection of 36th and Mill streets at about 8:38 p.m. Wednesday. During the stop, K9 Ares indicated on the vehicle and during a subsequent search, police allegedly located a 9mm handgun and methamphetamine residue in smoking pipes.

The occupants, driver Dylan L. Crays, 23, 404 E. 14th Sreet and passenger Demetrius L. Greer, 32, 2312 Sunset Drive, were both arrested.

Police charged Greer with a Level 4 felony count of possession of a handgun by a violent felon, a Level 6 felony count of methamphetamine possession, and misdemeanor counts of illegal possession of a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.

Police charged Crays with a Level 6 felony count of methamphetamine possession and misdemeanor counts of driving while suspended, illegal possession of a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department assisted.
