Tony R. Smock, 59, Dubois
Tony R. Smock, 59, of Dubois, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana, from an unexpected brain aneurysm.
Tony was born in Salem on August 21, 1967, to Benjamin and Joyce (Lashbrook) Smock.
He married Lorrie Allen on November 18, 1989.
He graduated from Springs Valley High School in 1986, where he has fond memories of playing baseball and being on the golf team.
He was head of maintenance for Northeast Dubois School Corporation, where the highlight of his job was the relationships he built with staff and students. These relationships meant the world to them, spanning more than 20 years.
He previously owned the Nicholson Valley Store, better known as “Tony’s.” Before that, he owned Tony’s Marine and recently opened the Nicholson Valley Gun and Knife Store.
Tony was a member of Nicholson Valley Christian Church, where he was an elder. He was also a member of the Southwest Indiana Walk to Emmaus Community.
Tony was a devoted husband, father, papaw, son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, coach, bus driver, and mentor. Everyone he knew loved being around his joyful demeanor.
He loved sharing his faith with others. He enjoyed hunting, walking, fishing, golfing, singing, gardening, sports, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Lorrie Smock of Dubois; his mother, Judy Smock of French Lick; four children, Kirsten (Keenan) Prechtel of Celestine, Erin (Reid) Olinger of Three Forks, Mt., Andrea (Tyler) Metcalf of West Baden, and Ethan Smock of Paoli; and seven grandchildren, Von, Jett, Dean, and Claude Prechtel, Aiden Ellis, Evelyn and Annalise Metcalf; additionally he is survived by six siblings, Scott (Stephanie) Smock, Karen (Jerry) Marks, Bill (Patti) Tinkle, Karla (Tim) Newton, Bob (Angela) Tinkle, and Lori (Chuck) Burton, and several nieces and nephews, and in-laws.
Preceding him in death are his father and mother.
A funeral service for Tony R. Smock will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Redemption Christian Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Cuzco Cemetery in Cuzco, Indiana.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Redemption Christian Church in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church on Monday.
