Tuesday rare treat for amateur astronomists and photographers (video)
On Tuesday we will sink into the pages of history when we witness the planet Venus crawling across the surface of the sun. This rare event won’t happen again for 105 years.
To see it on Tuesday evening, look to the west, Venus begins to cross the sun at 6:04 EDT and will appear as a notch in the sun. Around 6:22 p.m., Venus becomes a black dot on the sun.
Venus will take six hours to move across the surface but we’ll only see a few hours since the sun will set before it is done.
Venus’ crossings occur in pairs —the last occurred in June of 2004— and won’t happen again in this century. Maybe your grand-kids will see it.
