Thyen-Clark Cultural Center galleries open

Gerry Wubben’s ‘Monumental Detail — A Drawing Survey’ is on display along with John Mellencamp’s ‘Paintings and Assemblages’ and a community art exhibit featuring local artists.

The Jasper Arts Center has opened three galleries in the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center for visitors.

This is the only area currently open. Portions of the new Jasper Arts Center and new Jasper Library are still having the finishing touches applied due to setbacks created by the pandemic.

According to Arts Director Kyle Rupert, both entities had plans in place for several tours and an open house but with the uncertainty caused by Covid-19, they felt it was time to open up the galleries that are available now.

The three open galleries — each about the size of the Krempp Gallery at the Jasper Arts Center near VUJ — tease what the rest of this center has to offer when it finally opens fully. Each room gorgeously accents the art on display with hundreds of lights and spacious white walls. The airiness allows for easy perusing of each piece, while nearby comfortable benches provide perches for deeper contemplation of the artist’s vision.

Entering the Jasper Arts portion of the building, visitors will be treated to some original pieces of the Hoosier Desk factory building accenting the walls.

Patrons may enter through the doors in the back of the building and is limited to 24 patrons at a time. Masks are REQUIRED. Please stay home if you have been around anyone with Covid-19 and/or you have had a fever within the last 24 hours

The gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If you are not comfortable visiting in person quite yet check out the virtual exhibits at, www.thyenclarkculturalcenter.com.

Be aware if you go, construction is still ongoing and you will have to check-in as you enter the door as outlined in the video below.
