Three-vehicle crash closes busy Jasper road
A three-vehicle crash caused extensive damage to the vehicles involved and snarled traffic on Jasper’s southside Monday evening.
According to police, a 16-year-old was driving northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2001 Dodge Ram near the intersection with Wernsing Road when he crossed the centerline striking a southbound 2001 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Jeremy Sherman, 44, of Peoria, Ariz.
The impact caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife and strike a 2020 GMC Sierra driven by Philip Schwenk, 39, of Jasper.
U.S. 231 was closed for about 50 minutes while crews cleaned up the crash.
No injuries were reported.
Police estimated the 2001 Dodge Ram had about $15,000 in damages; the Freightliner with trailer had about $90,000 in damages; and Schwenk’s Sierra suffered about $20,000 in damages.
