Three-vehicle accident sends one to hospital

Jasper — A Birdseye man was sent the hospital after he was involved in a three-vehicle accident on Jasper’s north side Monday afternoon.

Logan Corbett, 22, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2002 Mazda Familia approaching the Northwood Avenue/30th Street intersection at about 3:26 p.m. When Corbett’s car went through the intersection, it collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Kenneth G. Beckman, 57, of Jasper/Dubois Road, Dubois, that was eastbound on Northwood Avenue.

After the collision, Beckman’s Colorado came to rest facing south in the northbound turn lane.

Corbett’s car careened east in the intersection and struck a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Toni Lane, 41, of Portersville Road, Jasper. His car continued east until stopping in the grass on the southeast corner of the intersection.

According to Lane, she had a green light on the northbound lane of U.S. 231. Beckman told police he had stopped and then proceeded through the intersection when the traffic signal turned green.

Police said Corbett was unable to relay what occurred in the accident due to a head injury he received. He was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for the head injury and a complaint of pain to his lower leg.

Beckman was cited for disregarding an automatic signal.

His Colorado had about $8,000 in damages; Corbett’s Mazda was considered a total loss; and Lane’s Aveo had about $2,000 in damages.
