The Library Bond wording changed by the State Board of Accounts and the Department of Local Government Finance
“Shall Jasper Public Library issue bonds to finance the construction of a new public library located at South Newton Street, Jasper, Indiana (the “Project”), which Project is estimated to cost not more than $7,300,000 and is estimated to increase the property tax rate for debt service by a maximum of $0.0534 per $100 of assess value?”
Is the new approved question for the November ballot.
The Dubois County Election Board met on Tuesday and voted to adopt the referendum question. Although Election Board member Don Hayes was not in attendance, board members Bill Kaiser and Bridgette Jarboe voted to adopt the revised question.
According to Rita Douthitt, Director Jasper Dubois Co Contractual Public Library, this was a request made by the State Board of Accounting. The plan had called for the Jasper Public Library to use approximately $1 million of its own funds in the project.
“The 7.3 million reflects the total cost of the project.” Douthitt explained. “We were only going to ask for the $6.3 million that we needed, but they wanted the wording to reflect the total estimated cost of the project.”
