The election board attempting to avoid confusion with new precincts
Due to the recent census Dubois County has been redistricted for voter precincts. This, along with the loss of the Jasper High School Gymnasium as a polling area, has the board wading through confusion in getting people to the proper polling places.
County Clerk Bridgette Jarboe will be sending out over 600 letters to newly registered voters today just so they know where to go in May’s primary. Additionally an aggressive media campaign will be letting people know where to go. (The D.C. Freep will be publishing the new precinct maps and the polling stations when they are made available.)
During the board meeting today, the group decided to utilize the Ireland Fire Department as a polling area for four precincts; two newly formed, Mad-Jas North and South; and Madison One and Two. They also decided to use the Dubois County Museum for Bainbridge 5 North and 5 South. More information will be published on this as it is provided.
The board discussed having signs made to attempt to offset confusion at the polling areas as many areas will have multiple precincts and will be new for voters.
Board member Bill Kaiser stated they loathed to move the polling areas as many voters are very familiar with where they need to go, but steps are being taken to insure everyone is aware of the proper place to cast their vote.
