Teens escape horrible crash uninjured
Kyana — Two teen girls escaped being injured when the SUV they were in left the road, went airborne for about 52 feet and then rolled over several times this morning.
Police are shaking their heads that 16-year-old Alyssa Englert and her 13-year-old sister Katelyn, both of Birdseye, escaped without injuries after the ordeal that destroyed the 2002 GMC Envoy they were in.
According to deputies, they were driving westbound on SR 64 at about 7:20 a.m. when the SUV went left of center near Kyana. Witnesses told police that the SUV nearly struck a bus head-on before it went off the south side of the highway. It traveled about 166 feet in the grass before striking a guardrail. It then went airborne for about 52 feet and landed in a ditch and rolled several times. The vehicle finally came to a stop about 101 feet from the point of impact.
Seatbelts are credited with saving the girls from serious injuries. They were transported to Memorial Hospital for observation and then released.
The Envoy was totaled.
St. Anthony First Responders, Memorial Emergency Medical Services and a Bob Luegers wrecker assisted with the accident.
