Teen found unresponsive faces several charges in hit-and-run crash
A Jasper teen was arrested after she was found unresponsive in a vehicle and later connected to a crash in Ferdinand early Friday morning.
According to Ferdinand police, they were called to the Sunoco Gas Station at 1540 Main Street at about 3:40 a.m for the report of a wrecked vehicle with its driver slumped over the steering wheel. Responding officers detected a strong odor of alcohol from the occupant identified as 19-year-old Shandra A. Wilson, of N. Brookstone Court. They determined her blood alcohol content was .14 percent.
She was charged with misdemeanor underage drinking and operating while intoxicated and booked into the Dubois County Security Center.
At 7:42 a.m., the department received a call from a resident on W. 13th Street for the report of a hit-and-run crash involving a parked 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. The homeowner reported he found the truck had been struck overnight. According to police, this was about four blocks from where Wilson was located.
Police matched up parts from the scene with parts of Wilson’s Hyundai Santa Fe.
Police also discovered Wilson was in possession of a fake driver’s license with an altered date of birth.
Police added charges of leaving the scene of an accident and cited her for the altered driver’s license.
The Dodge Ram had about $6,500 in damages while Wilson’s Hyundai had about $3,000.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and a Uebelhor & Sons wrecker assisted with the incident.
