Team’s walk remembers and honors

Craig Atkins (on left) and Steve Brown, both veterans, led the procession of members of Team Red, White & Blue on an 11-mile trek from Ferdinand to Jasper’s Veterans Memorial Bridge to commemorate 9/11. Each mile the group stopped to complete nine squats and topped the final mile off with 15 burpees in honor of the 15th anniversary of the attacks.

Jeff Durlauf performed a burpee with the group at the end of the 11-mile walk near the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Jasper. Durlauf helped with planning the commemorative walk.
Jeff Durlauf performed a burpee with the group at the end of the 11-mile walk near the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Jasper. Durlauf, a teacher at Forest Park and owner of SIC Fitness in Ferdinand, is the athletic director for the group. He helped plan the commemorative walk.
Bryn Johnson, 4, looked on as the participants completed their 15 burpees. Bryn's father Jeremy Johnson drove the Jasper Fire Department's engine ahead of the group after it entered Jasper.

Tristan Atkins, 4, held the Team Red, White & Blue flag as his dad Craig Atkins performed the burpees. Atkins served 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He carried the team's flag at the head of the procession all 11 miles.
