Sylvester J. Mehringer, 93, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at his home in Jasper.

Sylvester was born March 10, 1921 in Jasper, Indiana to Joseph R. and Margaret (Scheurich) Mehringer. He married Lucille E. Kreilein on June 2, 1949 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2007.

He was employed by Lockhead Overseas Corporation from 1942 to 1944 as an aircraft technician serving in Northern Ireland and England. Then he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps with duty on Guam and in Japan. In 1980 he retired from Dubois Rural Electric Coop after 36 years.

He was a life member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

He enjoyed archery and black powder shooting.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Mehringer of Jasper; two sons, Keith J. Mehringer and James D. Mehringer,  both of Jasper.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are nine sisters, Caroline Schmitt, Catherine Sermersheim, Mary Sermersheim, Bertha Fromme, Clara Fromme, Ardella Wehr, Frances Mehringer, and two infants, Elizabeth and Olivia Mehringer, and three brothers, Robert Mehringer, and two infants, Leo and August Mehringer.

Funeral services for Sylvester J. Mehringer will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
