Sylvester B. Rasche, 91

Sylvester B. Rasche, age 91, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Sylvester was born in Jasper, Indiana on September 10, 1922 to Carl and Theresa (Hageman) Rasche. He married LaVerne M. Burger on September 19, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. She preceded him in death on April 15, 1992.

Sylvester was a lifelong farmer. He also was a past owner of the Huntingburg Food Locker in Huntingburg, Indiana for over 10 years.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, a past member of the Ireland Lions Club, a former member of the Jasper K of C, and current member of the Ireland K of C for a combined total of 69 years, a charter member of the Ireland Sportsman’s Club, and the Civil Defense.

He enjoyed gardening and spending time with the family.

He is survived by three sons, Gary Rasche, and his wife, Linda, of Jasper, Bill Rasche, and his wife Becky, of Huntingburg, and Ken Rasche, and his wife, Jan, of Jasper; companion, Millie Schum of Jasper; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren,
two step great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are one son, Gordon Rasche, who died in infancy, a great granddaughter, Annie Rivers, one sister, Magdalene Welp, seven brothers, Richard, John, Martin, Herman, Paul, Urban, and one brother, who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Sylvester B. Rasche will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Young Life, St. Vincent de Paul Society, or Right to Life.
