Sylvester A. “Si” Hurst, 87

Sylvester A. “Si” Hurst, 87 of Ferdinand passed away July 9,2013 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville, In.

He was born April 13,1926 in Jasper, In. to Gilbert & Alma (Burger) Hurst. He married Mary Margaret Wollenmann on June 28,1949 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, and she died April 3,2010.

Sylvester was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a WWII and Korean War Navy Veteran. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, and Ferdinand Veterans Of Foreign Wars. He was a founding member of the Ferdinand Development Corporation, and a member of St. Meinrad K of C #5599.

Surviving are one son, Chris Hurst and his wife Kyla of Fishers. Three daughters, Mrs. Bill (Karen) Burkley of Brooklyn, IN, Mrs. Scott (Tina) Willis of Fishers, and Vanessa Hurst of Louisville, KY. Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. One brother, Arnold Hurst of Middletown, OH, two sisters, Mary Ann Reckelhoff of Lexington, KY, and Virginia Edelen of Louisville, KY.

He was preceded in death by a son Jerry Hurst, and a daughter Kathleen Hurst in infancy.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with military graveside rites by Ferdinand American Legion in the church cemetery.
