Sylvan “Syl” L. Jahn, 92, Jasper
Sylvan “Syl” L. Jahn, 92, of Jasper, passed away at 5:43 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at home, surrounded by family.

Sylvan was born in Jasper on April 6, 1934, to Henry and Rosetta (Dick) Jahn.
He married Mary Helen Schitter on April 25, 1964, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.
He graduated from Jasper High School in 1952 and later earned a degree in finance from Lockyear Business College in Evansville.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Sylvan retired as vice president from North American Products, where he had worked for 43 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, the American Legion Post #147, Jasper K of C, and the Jasper Moose.
He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, Jasper Wildcats, and Indiana University.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jahn of Jasper; three children, Mark Jahn of Terre Haute, Michelle (Jerome) Nordhoff of Jasper, and Kevin (Tracy) Jahn of Fairfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Laura) Jahn, Jessica (Matt) Prechtel, Kyle (Madison) Nordhoff, Eric (Breanna) Nordhoff, Adam Nordhoff, Emma Jahn, and Abbey Jahn; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Valeda Moeller of Jasper and Karen Steftenagel of Jasper; one brother, Jim (Marilyn) Jahn of Jasper; one brother-in-law, Daniel “Whitey” (Brenda) Schitter of Jasper; step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two brothers-in-law, Barney Moeller and Mike Stenftenagel.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvan Jahn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military graveside rites.
A visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Tuesday.
