Jasper police are still seeking one of the two men involved in a hit-and-run crash that damaged two vehicles, a fire hydrant and a garage Monday morning.
According to authorities, a 2006 Dodge Charger was northbound on the 1300 block of Mill Street at 8:30 a.m. when it struck a parked 2004 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Teddy Foster of Mill Street. Debris from the Charger struck a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant belonging to Haleigh Foster parked in front of the Silverado.
The Charger then fled the scene and turned westbound on 14th Street before attempting to turn north on Main Street. It failed to make the turn. The Charger jumped the curb and struck a city-owned fire hydrant sending it into the garage door of the residence at 1401 Main Street.
After striking the fire hydrant, the Charger spun around in the lawn of 1401 Main Street. Then, according to police, two black males fled the scene.
This morning Jasper Police Department tweeted surveillance video photos of the two men and asked for the public’s help in locating them. They announced a short time later that one of the two was in custody.
Neither man has been identified.
During the course of events, the Silverado was totaled, the Mitsubishi had about $100 in damages, the fire hydrant was considered a $4,500 loss, the garage door had about $300 in damages and the lawn had about $200 in damages.
The investigation is still underway.
