Suspect in hotel shooting facing murder charge
Dubois County Prosecutor Beth Schroeder has filed one count of murder against Jakahri Keyshaun Curry, 20, of Macon, Georgia, for the shooting incident that occurred at the SureStay Hotel in Jasper on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
After a confrontation between Lawrence Jonte Walker, 27, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Curry, Curry allegedly filed multiple shots at Walker. Other individuals on the scene rushed Walker to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, where he eventually passed away due to his injuries.
At that time, Curry went inside the SureStay Hotel, and when police arrived on the scene, they took Curry into custody without incident.
Curry and Walker were both employees of an outside contracting company working in the area.
On Friday, December 20, 2024, the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office initially filed a request with the Dubois Circuit Court for a 72-hour hold for Curry to give the State more time to evaluate the case and determine what charges should be filed. The Dubois Circuit Court granted that request and scheduled an Initial Hearing for Curry for Monday, December 23, 2024, at 1:00 P.M.
Curry was held without bond until that time.
