Susan Jean Schnierle, 78, Evansville
Susan Jean Schnierle was born on September 7, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She passed into eternal life on September 8, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. She was 78 years old.
Susan was the daughter of George A. Schroer and Jean A. (Rich) Schroer.
On March 22, 1969, she married the love of her life, John Schnierle. They shared 57 years of marriage together.
Susan was a true Virgo. Everything she undertook was done with care, determination, and perfection. She often said, “Have something to do, get it done, do it right so you don’t have to do it again.” That philosophy was a reflection of the way she lived her life-with purpose, commitment, and pride in everything she did.
Susan was a lifelong Girl Scout and devoted many years to serving young people in her community. She led a Girl Scout troop and served as the North Dubois County cookie chair for 10 years. She also taught Bible school and served as a trustee at Shiloh Methodist Church.
In the early 1990s, Susan served as Vice President of the Girls Booster Club, supporting all of the girls’ sports at Jasper High School. She spent countless hours decorating the girls’ lockers and cheering them on from the sidelines.
Susan had a lifelong love of teaching. She taught fourth grade in Cincinnati and later spent 20 years as a substitute teacher in Jasper. She loved every minute of it and especially enjoyed running into former students over the years. Her students remained an important part of her life long after they left her classroom.
A devoted fan through thick and thin, Susan faithfully supported the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. She enjoyed cross-stitching, reading, and listening to the Golden Oldies. She was a member of a Euchre club for more than 40 years, where she treasured the laughter, friendship, and fellowship shared around the table.
Susan was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for nearly 40 years. The organization and its commitment to preserving history and serving others were very near and dear to her heart.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Karen Leigh Schnierle.
She is survived by her loving husband, John; her children, Nancy (Nigel) Islam and Jeffrey (Emily) Schnierle; six grandchildren, Lauren (Lance) Warfel, Ryan (Lilly) Islam, Zachary Islam, Addison Schnierle, John Schnierle, and Connor Schnierle; two great-grandchildren, Weston and Violet Warfel; and her brother, Tom Schroer.
Susan leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, lessons taught, games played, teams cheered for, and a family who will forever carry her love with them.
